Love that there are so many books in one cover!

It was great to have so many books together at my fingertips. I have already read one book several times and use the information often. I want to use the information relating to TEams soon!! Right now working on the book about attitudes. So much useful information!

John Maxwell's "The Complete 101 Collection" - Review

This "book" contains 8 books from John Maxwell's "101 Series" — "Attitude 101", "Self-Improvement 101", "Leadership 101", "Relationships 101", "Success 101", "Teamwork 101", "Equipping 101", and "Mentoring 101". A ninth book, "Ethics 101", is not included in this collection. This is a great starter set for a young leader and for an experienced leader who wants content for conversations in a mentoring relationship.

Each of these books is intended as an introduction to its topic. Don't expect to learn everything you need to know as a leader, despite the subtitle, "What Every Leader Needs to Know". However, do expect to get a good introduction to the things that a good leader needs to know and do. There are numerous references to other books by Maxwell, each of which goes into greater depth on a given topic. In typical Maxwell fashion, these books have plenty of quotes from historical figures as well as some of the best current writers on leadership. There is some overlap between the subject matters of the books, so there are sections that are repeated in different ones of these books. For example, a significant minority portion of "Mentoring 101" is included in "Equipping 101". That's not bad because equipping leaders and mentoring leaders have similar characteristics.

I think one of the best uses of these books (or this collection) would be for an experienced leader to mentor a young leader. And, in fact, 5 of these books (Mentoring 101, Relationships 101, Equipping 101, Attitude 101, and Leadership 101) are available as a part of Maxwell's Lunch & Learn series which includes a discussion guide.

Some of the themes that run throughout all of these books are:
• Trust
• Loyalty
• Choosing people based on leadership potential, not followship
• Passing on responsibility.

While every one of these books is helpful, I thought the best sections were:
• Leadership 101, Chapter 9, "How Can I Extend My Influence"
• Teamwork 101, Chapter 2, "What is the Impact of Good Teamwork", especially the section "Great Teams Create Community".
• Equipping 101, Chapter 5, "What Does It Take to Equip a Leader", especially the section "Check on Them Systematically" when Maxwell talks about working with "a person whose progress is repeatedly poor."

Reading the 101 Collection is time well spent

John C. Maxwell and his team cherry-picked the essentials in subjects such as leadership, attitude, relationships, teamwork, and mentoring and put them in an easy to read format. The 101 series helped more than one million readers to become better leaders. Now, all 6 titles have been combined into The Complete 101 Collection. A solid 8-10 hours reading can't make a leader out of anyone.
Attitude 101 deals with the formation and impact of attitude. Failure, success and the differences between attitude and character. Admit wrongdoings and forgiveness are important. Having the right attitude to lead, serve and enable growth is core to leadership. Each of us is created uniquely and performs differently, and should be treated as such.
Self-improvement 101 continues building your own leadership traits, before Leadership 101 concentrates on the ones to lead. You can lead, learn how to. Relationships 101 deals with the importance of relationships in every leadership setting. Success 101 focuses on the different perspectives on success and the generic principles to gain success and learn from failures. Teamwork 101, Equipping 101, and Mentoring 101 continue to highlight team formation, equipping people as a leader, and various mentoring possibilities to help your team grow, leave a lasting effect on the team, celebrate successes and develop new leaders during the journey.
John C. Maxwell has a typical writing style. Quotations and examples from other lives make up more than 90 percent of the content. And while his own professional leadership positions are in Christian church settings, you may expect a portion of Christianity injected as well. Leading a organization of volunteers, like a church is more difficult than a regular organization. Maxwell applies the same leadership principles, measures churches' success in attendance or membership figures, plus the lasting effect of the leader. Business, politics, Christianity blended, obviously written from an American point of view. Reading The Complete 101 Collection also reveals a lot of redundancy in the books. Whole sections of stories, examples and principles are copied in titles, sometimes even more than once. Third, the books, and especially the examples and borrowed insights from others weren't updated in the current decennial. Short summary of leadership stayed the same: influence. Reading the 101 Collection is time well spent.

Great playbook with actionable advice

This book does a great job of blending theory with practice and lots of case studies - from the Porsche Cayenne to Optimizely and a paper mill. Yes most people realize that pricing has a big impact on profitability. The insight from this book was how to use pricing data BEFORE building the product so you invest only in the product features that your customers will actually pay for.

Monetizing Innovation is way more than a pricing book.

As an instructor for Pragmatic Marketing I teach companies how to innovate. As a pricing expert I teach and coach companies on pricing concepts. Madhavan has done a fantastic job at combining both of these topics.

Sure, after you have an innovation you have to price it. But the real magic is creating the innovation that buyers would be willing to pay for.

I especially like the examples he sprinkles throughout his book. I highly recommend this book to anybody who is trying to create new products.

Great translations of the Greek myths.

I found that while reading this that in some parts it is a little hard to understand. Overall however the tales of Troy and the epics are written woderfully in a easy to understand and interesting way. It contains some different translations of how the myths took place that make it interesting rather than the humdrum everyday examples. Its a good way to start of a collection for anyone interested in the epics of Greek heroes and the tragedies such as oedipus and the seven against thebes.

As well this book provides a grove of information on some lesser known myths as well as contains an abridged version of both the Illiad and the Oddyssey. This book provides many tales of which to entice as well as to ensnare the mind and does a proficient job of putting most of the well known myths into perspective as well as providing certain areas with more explanation and vivid translation.

A great place to begin any collection on Greek mythology, however it is somewhat limiting and I would encourage anyone truly intersted in myth to start here and then read the actual unabridged stories as they were first intended to be read. This book will provide however a great launching point for any avid begginer.

One of the Best Books on Greek Mythology Available

This translation of Gustav Schwab's epic anthology is without a doubt one of the best, if not THE best, books on Greek mythology. Not only does the author explain the myths, he brings them back to life and breathes fresh life back into these ancient fables. Moreover, his sources are vast and frequently conflicting in their input due to the equivocal and interpretive nature inherent in the mythology of Ancient Greece; yet, instead of simply collecting these contradicting tales into a single volume, he chose the riskier--yet more extraordinary--path of weaving his own version of these timeless tales. Utilizing his extensive knowledge of Greek mythology and culture, he brings together the countless interpretations and versions of every myth and reconciles them under a single perception. In doing so, he forged an undying legacy for himself as one of the last mythographers to have ever lived.

While it is admittedly true that some of the lesser-known or miscellaneous myths scattered throughout the Greek culture have been either neglected or omitted; however, I believe this was necessary to maintain the fluidity of his work as one myth transitions into another. This book is not simply a collection of myths; it's a chronology of Ancient Greece's more fictitious historical identity. Through this novel approach, Schwab combines historical accuracy with mythical legend and applies a writer's techniques with the heart of a poet. Needless to say, I believe that this novel is an essential and necessary piece of literary art for anyone interested in Ancient Greek history and/or mythology to own.

My only complaint is that by providing his singular interpretation, albeit one conceived from the various mythologies of ancient mythic authors, he is suppressing the fact that Greek mythology was in fact a religion based on local interpretation as compared to the universal doctrines so commonly found in later organized religions. There are hundreds, if not thousands or tens of thousands, of unique versions of each and every myth, depending on which location and time period one chooses to study. The fact of the matter is that there are no and never had been any dogmatism or strict doctrines within the Ancient Greek pagan beliefs. Until Gustav Schwab's epic interpretation (as found in this novel), the majority consensus among ancient Greeks regarding their theistic beliefs was ambiguous and relied primarily on the recognition of the most fundamental qualities of their faith. Outside of that, Ancient Greek paganism was a hazy conglomeration of local cults and deities assumed under a single system of belief.

I might also add that the telling of Homer's "Iliad" and "Odyssey" within this book are very basic and only fleetingly follows the original translation. In this, too, Schwab wove his own version of events in an artistic and relatively concise manner. That said, if you're seeking accurate, meticulously rendered translations of the original texts, you'll be sorely disappointed in this book. For these two reasons and these two alone, I believe this only deserves a four-star rating. Outside of that, this is an amazing and phenomenal book in every single way and if you have the opportunity to buy and/or read it, don't hesitate to jump on the chance while you still can.

This was my first book on my kindle and it was definatly worth the cost.

The tales go from the kind Titan who gave fire to mandkind, Prometheus, to the epic tales of Troy! I have not read it all, (About 46%throuh) but it has tons of info even simle for a intelegent 10 year girl old like me.

I expecily liked how it stated, for example, numerous
diferent virsions of how Dionisys became imortal. One explains how Hera tricked one of Zeus's girfriends to ask him to show her his true form, disintergrating her imediatly, but sparing the son inside her. But Zeus put him inside him and when he was born, he was imortal because he was born from Zeus. Another said Zeus favored Dionisys for creating wine, and gave him the gift of immortality.

Over all a great book so far!

Oscar Wilde (1854 1900) was born and raised in Dublin, Ireland. An excellent reprint of an indispensible book.

Formerly published under the title of 'The Epigrams of Oscar Wilde,' this compilation of quotes is one of my favorites. I turn to it again and again when looking for a choice bit of humor to accentuate a letter or conversation. There are bits and pieces from all of Oscar Wildes plays, non-fiction works, and even conversations. Topics are as diverse as Religion ("Religion is the fashionable substitute for Belief."--Dorian Gray) and Love ("...love and gluttony justify everything"-In Conversation) and Criticism ("...the first duty of an art critic is to hold his tongue at all times, and upon all subjects."-The English Renaissance of Art). Highly Recommended, and makes a great gift as well.

Doesn't Do Wilde Justice

While Wilde was one of the greatest wits of our time, this book of epigrams is sorely lacking. His bits of conversation are fun to read, but quotations from his written works are taken out of context and lose much because of that. I recommend this for any Wildephile, but with reservations.
