Totally Relaxing, and enlightening journey

I have been afraid of trying anything like this, for fear that
I would 'lose myself', but I have that fear no more! After reading
the book '100 Ways to Sunday', I decided that I would try the drumming journey. As a result, I was freed of a fear I have carried all my life, and my spirituality has opened up in leaps and bounds.
The drumming in the CD is wonderful to listen to, and Robin's voice is very calming, and non threatening.
The CD also has a nice introduction, and Robin holds a really
in depth discussion with 3 different contemporary shamans. Many
answers about journeys and drumming are answered in the discussion,which makes you very relaxed about actually taking the journey. I can not say enough about the postive results of this CD in my life!

After reading a few of Robin's books, I tried the Guided Drumming Journey....and it was amazing! I have listened to it every morning now...it wakes me up and I stick right with it for a deeply satisfying journey into myself and the spirit world. It is now a morning staple....and I have to say my life is sweeter for it!

VERY easy to read; a great intro for novices

Being a beginner in the world of DOE (with minimal statistics training), this book was TRULY a godsend. Very easy to understand-- I feel I was able to get a nice grasp of the concepts I'd heard about so often before but could never quite nail down. I did a 2-day training at SAS on DOE and this little book blew that away. Lots of examples and practice problems to get some experience under my belt.

Some people are critical because they say it's "oversimplified"... but come on guys, read the title of the book! It is not for hardcore math guys. It is for novices and practical-minded folk who need to get a fast, easy intro.

Finished it in 2 easy afternoons and now I feel comfortable to move on to more detailed/ math oriented texts to learn all the nuances of DOE. Highly, highly recommended for novices. Looking forward to the other books written by these very talented authors!

A Truly Brief Introduction to DOE

The book is a very brief introduction to DOE. I had read other reviews that stated that it was only a very brief intro to DOE. My thoughts when purchasing the book was that would be what I needed since I had not previously worked with statistical experimental design. Having now gone more than half way through the book, I found that I could not follow the solutions without the aid of other more detailed statistical design of experiments texts. If you are truly a beginner, I suggest using this book while referring to Design & Analysis of Experiments by Douglas Montgomery. In this manner while using a book similar to Montgoemery's 5th or later edition as a reference, the "DOE Simplified" text serves as a pacer book to hurry you through an intro to DOE. It certainly helped me become much more interested in pursuing DOE and thus order a number of additional books of which Montgomery's was one of seven that I have recently purchased from Amazon. Although I am digressing, my rating of Montgoemry's 5th Edition is FANTASTIC!!!!! DOE Simplified.... good summary as long as you have reference material.

A Reasonable Quick Survey

DOE Simplified is perhaps overly simplified. The author tries to pack ANOVA, factorial experimentation, use of blocking and fold overs, and response-surface methodology inside 200 pages. The attempt is admirable, but the book would be hard for a beginner to fully understand due to information gaps, especially on why the techniques work (at least on an intuitive level). The person who would benefit most is that person needing a refresher after a being away from DOE for some time.

About the Author
Allison Moore is a former narcotics officer with the Maui Police Department. A native of New Mexico, she served a one-year sentence in the Federal Correction Center in Oahu for drug-related felonies. She is currently attempting to make amends to all those she has hurt and find her way back to life.

Nancy Woodruff received her MFA from Columbia University, and she has taught writing at Columbia, Purchase College, Richmond, the American International University in London, and New York University. Shards Prologue
He wants to take a shower so I make it ready for him, turning the stiff chrome handle until the water is perfect.

Everything, everything has to be perfect for him. If he doesn’t like the temperature of the water. If I add too much cream to his coffee. If I don’t weigh exactly 116 pounds.

The consequences are never the same. I would love to know that when I fuck up I will just get the shit kicked out of me, but every time is different. Sometimes it’s just a beating. Sometimes I have to face the wall while he whips me with a rubber hose. Other times, my head in the toilet until I can’t breathe. Or this: brushing my teeth with Mechanics hand cleaner while he grabs my throat so I can’t swallow.

This time I am careful not to fuck up. I only need a few minutes. Just enough time to go downstairs for the gun. Most of the weapons have been hidden away except for the revolver he keeps in the shop for protection. He never sells from the house, but sometimes he’ll negotiate there.

He has a name, but I can’t speak or even spell it. I’ll call him my dealer.

While he’s in the shower, my job is to get his clothes ready, make his coffee, load a bowl with dope, bring everything into the bathroom, and stay there until he is ready to get out.

But not today. Not today.

My plan is to kill him, then kill myself. I’ll get him coming out of the shower.

I walk down the stairs and go into the shop. I don’t know if it’s morning or night and I don’t even care. I’m on tweaker time. I’ve been up for days.

The revolver is exactly where I know it is, in the back of a drawer in his worktable, in a FedEx envelope addressed to his friend Joe. A Ruger .38 with a black handle and wood inlay, disassembled.

Putting together a revolver isn’t difficult, but only if I remain calm. I move into work mode. In recruit school we had this saying: slow is smooth and smooth is fast. If you’re trying to rush putting a mag in your firearm you’ll fumble it up. If you take your time it goes faster in the end.

I insert the cylinder, then the trigger guard, steady, thinking clearly. I’m not shaking. Except for my hands, I’m completely still, focusing so hard on listening. I can still hear the shower going, the water running through the pipes down to the basement.

I’ve thought about leaving a note for my family, for Keawe, but I have been too scared the dealer would find it or see me writing it. For me there are no hiding places in this house, no secrets from him. I figure I can write to the people I love after I kill him, before I kill myself. I have thought a lot about what I want to write, but all I can really say is that I love them, and that I’m sorry. I’m not going to try to explain anything. There is no explanation for what I have done and what has been done to me. Just Sorry and I love you, that’s all.

Will they ever see the note? Who will even find us—the dealer’s friend Joe or one of his drug groupies? Will they bother to call the cops?

How will they even know who I am?

I push these thoughts away. I need to stay focused. Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. I insert the hammer and the hammer pin, then the spring. I have a little trouble with the spring, but it doesn’t faze me. The handle, the wood inlays, then the pin that you push in to hold it all together. Once I put the inlays in I grab the last piece, a screw that holds the inlays and the handle together.

The shower stops. I should be there with his clothes, his coffee, the bowl of dope. In a minute he’ll come looking for me, but it’s okay. I’ll get him coming down the stairs.

I cannot change my mind now, and I don’t want to. In my heart I know I will die in this house. I want to die. I want to take him with me, but if there’s only one bullet, I’ll use it on myself.

I have to finish turning the screw—I have no tools, so it’s going slow. I want to load the gun first. I look up from what I’m doing, shaking the envelope.

I can’t find the bullets.

There are no bullets.

He’s the master of hidden compartments—meth in the hollowed-out leg of his kitchen table, coke in the recessed lighting. If there are bullets, they could be anywhere, and I don’t have enough time.

My body collapses. I tell myself, You have to move, because when he gets out of the shower he’s going to come looking for you.

I look wildly around the shop for tools I can kill him with, but he’s taken everything dangerous from the house, even the kitchen knives. He knows I want to die. I have told him so over and over again.

Even if I do manage to kill him now, how will I find a way to die?

My hands no longer steady, I start to disassemble the gun, to put the parts back in the envelope and into the drawer before he gets to the shop. But he’ll know anyway. There are cameras hidden all over the house, in every corner of every room, in the recessed lighting, the air vents, the electrical sockets. If he watches the footage he’ll know what I was trying to do.

Slow is smooth and smooth is fast. I’m rushing now, I’m fucking it up. I need a hit.

His footsteps on the stairs—I hear them.

He’s coming down now, to find me.

I’m living in hell and I can’t even die.

Well Worth Reading.

I believe that many of us do not understand drug addiction, This book shows how it can happen and how difficult it is to stop, even when the person wants to. Such a sad story about a young woman who had so much going for her. To learn how drug dealers operate was very educational, and my heart ached for Allie though the entire book. It is very well written and very readable holding one's attention . Nancy Woodruff did a great job and I read the book in 1 1/2 days. Could not put it down.

This book is a page turner from start to finish! For non-addicts. It's hard to understand some of the lengths Ms. Moore went to in order to hide her addiction. She truly didn't care about anything, or anyone. She only cared about her next high. I commend her family for standing by her and I give her a lot of credit for airing her dirty laundry and attempting to reach out to the people she hurt. Thanks for being accountable and taking responsibility for your actions. Good luck!

I have bought 5 or more of these books for gifts after my daughter got it as a gift. We read it multiple times a day. It has a wonderful message and beautifully illustrated pages. It's is clearly my daughter's favorite and mine as well! Highly recommended!! :)

Kelly Ward, aka The Fall Prevention Lady, is a certified FallProof™ balance and mobility specialist who has been teaching fall prevention classes in the Sacramento region for over five years. As good and bad as the others around

This book is as good as the other, less expensive books on the subject. However, they all seem to have the same flaw: lack of information on how to fall. This book asserts that there are no such techniques. Wrong. A few weeks ago, I tripped on something and started to fall forwards. Fifty years ago I took a class in judo and learned how to fall. I am amazed that I instintively went into a forward judo roll, i.e., tucked my chin in, landed lightly on the top of my back and wound up standing straight up again. Perhaps I was just lucky, since I am not in good condition. But there clearly are ways to fall without hurting one's self. The author refers to specialists of some sort that can teach one
some techniques, but does not say who these people are.

If you are fit enough, learn some judo. Forget tai chi, as so many recommend. Why aren't there gentle judo classes for seniors?

A Different View

The mid 1600’s were not a particularly good time to be in England. There were the civil wars, and various other wars between Catholics and Protestants (among others). A lot of the royal family, kings and wives were executed. The great fire of London took place. Dr. Greenberg has analyzed this time not from a historical point of view, but from an analysis of plays, other writings and paintings from and about the time. She analyzes works of Shakespeare, Milton, Massinger and many other writers to illustrate how the literature changed to match changes at the base level of society. There were arguments about the divine power of kings culminating in the execution of Charles I. Cromwell was attempting to change the very structure of English government.

Dr. Greenberg includes eleven illustrations from paintings of the period. Unfortunately including the paintings in black and white in a regular 6"x9" book means that they are reduced in size to make them difficult to see the critical points she is discussing. To better see what she is discussing I went to the web to find better images.

All in all, this book presents an original view of life at the time.

complete and beautifully illustrated resource for making a waldorf-style doll; clear enough for a complete novice to follow

I am so excited about this book!! Last spring I bought two doll kits from Weir Crafts because I wanted to make my two daughters waldorf style dolls. I love the doll kits. The materials are very high quality as well as affordable. While the kits did come with instructions, I found them inadequate. I only got as far as making one doll head, at which point I gave up because I felt unsure of how to continue. I needed clear, visual, step-by-step instructions that I could look at while sitting at the table with my materials in my hands.

Then I found THIS book at A Child's Dream online crafting shop. It is fully illustrated with clear drawings and gorgeous photographs. Every step of the doll making process is broken down further into step-by-step instructions. Beyond that, the way the hair is attached to this doll is ingenious!!! No crocheting a head cap, no seaming yarn on a sewing machine between papers (which is how I've seen it done in tutorials online). The way this author makes the doll head is so much easier and smoother than way I made the first one. And, the book contains all the pattern templates you need for doll body and limbs, and clothing and accessories too. It is an amazingly complete, clear, and beautifully illustrated resource.

I have never made a doll before, have little crafting experience, and this book makes doll making totally and completely do-able for a novice like myself. Hooray - at last I can finish my daughters' dolls!!! Hopefully in time for Christmas! Thank you, Wenche O. Steensen!

Wonderful book

The dolls are absolutely adorable and the instructions are well-illustrated and easy to understand. There is something missing from the application of hair on the boy doll, but a quick note to the publisher to point this out sent them scurrying to put some errata up on their website, and it perfectly fills in the missing part of the instructions. I love this book, and my little grandsons are going to get their dolls in their Easter baskets.

Lovely book

This book has full size patterns and very clear instructions, with photos, for sewing and construction. This is the best book I have ordered as far as teaching how to make and place yarn doll hair. The only downside to the book is that it is European and all the material sources are foreign, I would have loved for them to find US equivalent sources for the skin fabric.
