A great starting point

This is a broad treatment of M-commerce and is aimed at a broad audience of business and technical readers. Usually books of this nature are mediocre because of the trade-offs compromises in scope and content that need to be made to accommodate a wide audience. In the case of the book, though, it isn't the case.
First, the book is organized by (1) Business opportunity, (2) Applications, (3) Technology, (4) Issues and (5) Directory of M-Commerce Applications. The first four sections are both insightful and invaluable. The directory of M-commerce applications, in my opinion, does not add any value to the book because information of this nature changes so rapidly that it's inaccurate before a book is even published.
What I like about the book is the even treatment of opportunities that are inherent in M-commerce, including some insights into why Europe does not have the advantages that normally come from being early adopters (in spite of the pessimists who cite a "two year head start" while ignoring the U.S. leadership in technology implementation when we do get around to it), and the interesting view of WAP (Wireless Application Protocol), which many believe to be just an interim - the author advises to put resources and effort into WAP and make it part of a business strategy if you want to be an M-commerce player.
The survey of technologies and standards are also useful, even if given somewhat superficial treatment. The value is you are exposed to all of the factors and considerations with which to make informed decisions or gain an understanding of the M-commerce landscape. In this respect the applications and technology sections of the book can be viewed as a primer.
Overall, this is an excellent book for learning about M-commerce from business and technical points of view because it provides a context and keen insights in both domains.

A disappointment

The Matthew Swift novels were lovely. New ideas, interesting reading, characters with engaging conflicts. The first Sharon Li novel seemed a clever pivot: Swift was just too settled to avoid 'puzzle box' plots, so why not shift to another set of characters in the same imaginative space? However, the relentless 'happy talk' of Sharon is a joke that wears. It was worn out by the end of the prior novel, and it's just tiresome in this book. Particularly piled atop Kelley's very similar tendencies. The little chapters inspired by an AA circle were just tolerable in the first book, but becomes distraction and fill in this book, where we spend no time at meetings.

How many times does Sharon Li get too tired to see straight? Is it three times? Four times? If this was comic exaggeration, that would be fine. It feels instead as if the author couldn't think of anything else.

Finally, there's a moral dilemma that is very prominent in the middle of the book, and apparently just fluffed at the end. Perhaps the author is conserving it for resolution in another book. I won't spoil with details.

Excellent!

This series is just wonderful, and this book is excellent! If you haven't read any of the books in the series, read at least the first one, Madness of Angels, and the fifth one, Stray Souls, before you read this one, If you have read the other books, Matthew Swift, the Midnight Mayor, has gone missing, and it's up to Sharon Li, Shaman, to find him. All the wonderful characters from Stray Souls are helping out as well.

Entertaining, but drastic tone switch from the first series

The Magicals Anonymous books are an entirely different sub-genre than the Matthew Swift books, despite being set in the same world. The Glass God is okay -- definitely an entertaining read -- but nowhere near as innovative and compelling as the Matthew Swift quartet. Those were genuinely ground-breaking; these are a retread of the same tired comedic fantasy tropes I've read a hundred times before. It feels like Griffin was aiming at the same territory Terry Pratchett's Discworld books cover, and missed by a mile.

I probably won't buy any additional books in this particular series, but the first series was innovative enough that I'll give any other series she puts out a try.

Carter, a California pastor and author, gleans insights about prayer from 14 men and one woman from the Old and New Testaments. Included are the usual suspects, such as Abraham, David, Samuel and Paul, as well as a few choices that are refreshing for being relatively unsung (Gideon, Hannah and Nehemiah). Non-evangelical readers may be put off by some of the persistent jargon in the book, and much of its content is derivative. For example, the idea that Abraham is chiefly known for being "God's friend" seems borrowed from Henry Blackaby's "Created to Be God's Friend," but Blackaby is not cited. What the book lacks in originality it at least partially compensates for in being user-friendly; each chapter is followed by a study guide that presents relevant Scripture passages and questions for personal reflection or group discussion.

Good for my Bible study group

I taught "They Knew How to Pray" to my women's Bible study group at Menlo Park Presbyterian Church. The women loved it and found in each chapter great comfort and inspiration to pray. I especially liked the final chapter, "Your Prayer Life," because it addressed my needs the best. But I also loved the chapter on the prayer life of Samuel, which is called, "Practice a Ministry of Prayer." I highly recommend this book to a small or large group Bible study, or even to someone who wants to use it for personal daily devotion.

Highly recommended.

Contrary to what we have been lead to believe the military have brains, they have a sense of fairness and unfairness in what they are ordered to do and are not the robots that many people thinks they are. Because they are on the ground and in contact with the peoples they can absorb ideas or develop their own perspectives and have their own conclusions. But, even if they do not agree with the government policy, they have to obey orders and that is the end of it.
I am a Nicaraguan and this book is extremely accurate. It is a must to anyone studying the turbulent, violent, fair and unfair relationships between the United States of America and Nicaragua in particular and Latin America in general. Very well documented and supported in facts and not the myths of the leftists intellectuals very prone to US bashing. It describes us as we were, as we are and we will be. Explain lots of historical and transcendental happenings y a very clear and concise manner. It worth every dollar that you pay for it.

About the Author
Jose Silva Jr. is one of the last links to his father's pioneering research that led to the development of a system to help everyone develop their natural God-given ESP. It's a book that can be read on many levels ...

The first time I read this book was when it first came out in 1977. I've re-read it several times since then. My copy is marked up and dog-eared, yellowed and brittle, and falling apart. Yet, it's still an interesting read every time I pick it up.
The first part is a quick biography explaining how Jose Silva came to his discovery and development of the Silva Method. The rest of it is a how-to manual. It lays the groundwork for his later books which concentrate on applying these principles to your life.
The Silva Method is based on a simple philosophy that you become what you think you are. If you have a negative self-image, then you become that person in the real world. If you want to change who you are in the real world, you need to change who you are in your mind. And he tells you how to do it.
On one level, it's a beginner's course in positive thinking, giving you step-by-step instructions on active meditation and creative visualization. Silva tells you how to go to your "alpha level" (a semi-conscious dream state), create a positive self-image, and turn it into reality. Even if you never get past this beginning stage, if all you can do is repeat Emile Coue's daily affirmations, "Every day in every way, I'm getting better and better" and "Negative thoughts have no influence over me", you'll still be so much better for it. It's really like positive self-programming.
But, on another level, it's also an advanced course teaching you how to expand your mind to increase your intelligence, improve your memory, develop ESP, heal your injuries and disease, and even heal others. Getting there is a little more difficult for most of us because it involves a leap of logic and faith. We have to overcome our belief systems.
You may have some difficulty with this book if you tend to be very literal in a scientific sense. We all know the mind is capable of many things, but there's no hard scientific evidence for some of Silva's more extraordinary claims. There's only anecdotal evidence, mostly of the kind that cannot be measured or quantified. Believing that your mind can influence yourself may be easy to accept, but believing that your mind can influence others requires a leap in logic.
You may also have some difficulty with this book if you tend to be very literal in a strict Christian sense. The Silva philosophy is that you can control, or at least greatly influence, your own destiny. And you need a strong faith ... in yourself. Then you can do anything ... even things we might think of as "miracles". That might be hard to reconcile with your belief that only God can perform miracles. He also speaks of God in a more universal sense, a "Higher Intelligence". It sounds more like the "Force" in Star Wars than the Biblical God.
Anyway, Silva's books can mean many different things to many different people. The scientific community has debunked it. The religious community has denounced it. And it sounds a little too New Age-ish.
But, in the final analysis, it's really a recipe for finding -- within ourselves -- the happiness, peace, understanding and success we're all searching for.

Know yourself. Grasp your potential!

Before proceeding any further let me tell you won't waste your time from reading such a book like this. There's sufficient scientifical evidence from the practical findings done by Jose Silva and there's enough literature on the field of brain activity and visualization which NOW strongly support his remarkable techniques. Any Psychologist is witness to that. I first learned about Jose Silva Mind Control Method by reading this practical and amazing book. After trying some of the techniques outlined on it and seeing and enjoying the amazing results I decided to attend a seminar in MEXICO CITY in 1987. I graduated from the Basic Course and to my surprise EVERYTHING improved in my life since then EVERY DAY, IN EVERY WAY!!. My grades as a student, my personal finances, my relationships with others, my job, my health. I don't mean that there was anything wrong or I was in any special need for something. I think what I received was the knowledge to use all the special faculties I was endowed with as a Human being. I do sincerely recommend this book and I wish you to practice the dynamic meditation Jose Silva presents. Personaly I practice every day the simple meditation which I believe is in no conflict with any religion or philosophical point of view, quite the contrary I belive is a natural state of being. One last word, you need not to be an oustanding visualizer to make Silva Method work, it only takes to be a HUMAN BEING with the desire to be better and the courage and discipline to do it. Believe in yourself!

Great book excellent workshop

Jose Silva's book about the Silva Method is good. However the 4-day workshop is excellent. Taking the course in 1981 forever changed my life. Before my introduction to the Silva Method I was skeptical if I could not see, feel, taste or touch something. I saw only the physical world and thought the way to understand and harness it was through science and technology.
The experiences of a fellow therapist and a psychologist I worked with, who I respected, closed my tiny materialistic window and opened a vast door to the invisible world of energy and spirit. They said they had each learned to diagnose and heal three people knowing only their names, age and location. Steeped in the medical model for healing I suspected my friends had been duped and thought about taking the course to expose the charlatans. Especially since the Silva training had a money back guarantee.
When I heard a 4-day Silva course was being offered locally, I signed up. The introductory lecture was about Jose Silva, the founder, and outlined the almost four decades of research and development of The Silva Mind Control Method.
The instructor said the five senses-touch, taste, smell, hearing and sight are only a part of the senses we are born with. He said the exercises would help us learn to use more of our minds and use it in a special way to prevent illness, improve our health, solve everyday problems, learn more easily, strengthen our imagination, deepen our spiritual awareness and tap into Higher Intelligence. He said that meditation takes place when we are in the Alpha Brain State and that an electroencephalograph (EEG) can measure it. The brain rhythms of the Alpha Brain State are about seven to fourteen cycles per second (CPS) and we are in this energy state when we first go to sleep and when we dream. Meditation is going into Alpha Brain State without losing awareness.
To become more relaxed and meditative we were told to "Project ourselves mentally to our ideal place of relaxation." I become more peaceful as I pictured my favorite bubbly mountain steam in North Georgia. We did two countdowns to control the depth of our meditation/relaxation and one to return to consciousness.
While in our meditative states we practiced positive affirmations and the power of visualization. For example we visualized an apple on a large movie screen about six feet in front of us. We studied the details of the apple-the color, smell, touch, and taste. At first I had difficulty as my mind wandered but the instructor reassured us that our concentration would improve as we trained our minds to focus.
We were also instructed to practice projecting ourselves in and around different forms from the inanimate, plant, animal and human kingdoms. We would look at the texture, form, light, odor, color, temperature, solidity and abnormalities.
Each day I found myself going to deeper levels of relaxation while fully conscious. My visualizations became so real on the third day I had a moment when I was unable to tell if the leaf I was viewing belonged to the external or my internal world. It was both scary and a profound moment of grace.
The meditation and continuous visualization culminated in our creating an internal healing laboratory with two spiritual assistants to help diagnose and heal the subjects with physical or emotional problems. When the subject's name, age and location was mentioned we were told an image would miraculously appear on our inner visual screen and their ailments would make themselves known via visual, auditory and kinesthetic means. I was skeptical.
I felt sure my partner would not be able to tell what was wrong with my girlfriend and two relatives. I was even more certain I would not be able to diagnose the three people my partner knew. I was wrong; we all did. And I learned that there is another reality, and that we have capabilities not taught in our schools. It was both alarming and ecstatic.
Needless to say I did not ask for my money back after the Silva workshop. In fact I took the course again twelve months later. I was delighted to learn that Silva graduates pay a minimal tuition fee or do not pay again.
The Silva course improved my self-esteem, made me more optimistic and gave me confidence in my intuitive abilities. It also changed how I viewed the world and empowered me to use my gifts for the betterment of humankind and the earth.

DELICIOUSLY SINFUL !!!

Wow! At The Laird's Command is the third book in the Sword and Thistle series by Laurel Adams and I absolutely love it! Adams has dazzled her readers yet again with her amazing talent, incredible imagination and unique style. This story just reached out and grabbed me from the get go and refused to let me go until I read the very last word. I completely fell under the spell created by the magic and fantasy of Adam's skilled storytelling. The story is exciting, thrilling, powerful, raw, compelling, enthralling, enticing, romantic, arousing, sensual and steamy. The dialog is smart and very well written. The characters are captivating, fascinating, engaging, dark and sexy. One of the things I love most about Adam's writing, is her ability to gain empathy for her characters from her readers. You become totally immersed in the story and the lives of the characters. It makes reading the book a much more pleasurable and personal experience. Laird John Macrae is chief of his clan. It is he who will determine the fate of Heather's father after he was caught cheating his Laird-again. Heather is devastated when the Laird announces that her father is to be hanged. She knows she must do something to save her father but they are mere crofters-poor tenant farmers. She has nothing to offer in exchange for her request of mercy for her father other than her fealty, her body and her virginity. And surprisingly, the Laird Macrae is all too willing and eager to accept her offer. But now that he has her, what will he do with her? Or should I say, what will he do to her? Oh my goodness! The sexy Laird is not only dominant, he's a Dom! Huh? He doesn't completely understand his dark sexual needs and desires but he does know that he desperately desires the lovely lass Heather with her long dark hair, gorgeous violet eyes and very luscious curves, and he definitely wants to do more than just shame her and make her a whore. He just may want to claim her as his. And the lovely Heather just may want him to do all that he threatens and more-much, much more! But the castle has come under siege by the Donalds and the MacDonalds and they want his surrender and his head on a pike. There's a traitor in the castle and he knows his death his imminent. John knows that Ian has feelings for Heather and sees the desire in Ian's eyes every time he catches Ian eyeing his bonnie lass and it tears his heart out of his chest. Very commanding read.

There 's so much underneath the lives of the main characters. How each one is trying to figure out the best and most proficient and lifesaving ways to save the clan. But keeping secrets how their feelings of love for each other's needs be forfeited for the safety of all . I got caught so deep, I didn't stop reading through to the end.

I was surprised by how much I liked this story

I was surprised by how much I liked this story. I find it intriguing and charming when there are rougher (BDSM, DD) in historical stories. The addition of polyamory was unexpected, also. The love story is sweet, and very powerful. I would definitely consider reading more by this author.
